One thing we get asked alot is how often you should get a hair cut.

Read below for our top tips for hair health and how often you should get a hair cut.

How often you cut your hair depends on 2 things

  • the length of your hair, are you maintaining a style?

  • The condition of your hair - do you have dry damaged hair that needs to be maintained in order to get your hair healthy again.

If you have super healthy hair and are neither of the above then congratulations as you are one of few and in this case have you hair cut whenever you like - it’s your hair do what you want with it and don’t be ashamed to say you only get a cut twice a year!

Hair grows on average 1/2 an inch every month, so if your plan is to grow your hair longer getting an inch of every 6-8 weeks is going to slow down the growing process.

If you have a cut that needs more maintenance you are going to be looking at getting a haircut around 6-8 weeks to maintain the style of your hair.

If your finding the ends of your hair are becoming harder to brush and they get knotty easily your probably going to need more than the ends off.

Exclusive tip - if you can see split ends.. you’ve left it too long for a hair cut.

What causes dry hair?

Hair that’s exposed to constant heat, whether via straightening, drying, or curling, needs to be cut more often. This is because heat damages hair and the easiest way to get rid of said damage is to cut it off. It doesn’t mean you have to shave off inches, but getting your hair cut every few weeks will increase your hair health over time.

Chemical services can also cause your hair to become dry, especially if your hair has become subject to over processing due to multiple services.

My top tips for wearing hair extensions on holiday ☀️

With so many of you going on holiday I thought this would be the perfect way to kick of my salon blog!

So your going on holiday and you wear extensions..

I get asked all the time - can I keep my extensions in while I’m on holiday?

YES you can! There are just some things I would do in order to protect the life of your extensions and prevent them drying out, discolouring and fading lighter.

INVEST IN YOUR PRODUCTS!

This doesn’t just go for summer but for the duration of having extensions, you wouldn’t buy a lambo and wash it with a brillo pad would you? LOL (love my analogy) So why would you invest hundreds of £££ into some lovely new long locks and wash them with cheap shampoo and conditioner that does zero for your hair aswell as the extensions?! You have to remember your extensions arnt attached to a blood supply so any moisture and nutrients has to come from what you’re applying to your hair.

We have a range of products available to buy from the salon to suit your hair aswell as the extensions.

Products you need to be using on holiday

  • hydrating shampoo and conditioner

  • hard water remover

  • Hair mask

  • UV protection spray

  • Heat protection spray

  • Hair oil/moisture cream

What is hard water?

Compared to soft water, hard water contains higher mineral content. Exposing your hair extensions to this may lead to problems with your them resulting in tangled, dull, dry, discoloured hair.

There is a range of products available to buy online to remove hard water from your hair.

The Malibu C hard water wellness kit is one of my personal favs, and a must for you suitcase!

It is the number one defence system against malicious minerals and other elements hiding in your hard water. It is 100% vegan and as instantly removes and prevents discolouration, dryness, damage, as well as dullness, revealing perfectly purified, weightless hair and unmatched body and shine.

My top tips for wearing hair extensions on holiday

Invest in some cute hair wraps, hats and scrunchies

Keep your hair as covered as possible to reduce its exposure to sunlight and prevent colour fading

Keep your hair tied up as much as possible

This will prevent discolouration from sun cream from your back and shoulders

Keep your hair wet if swimming in pools or the sea

If you plan on getting your hair wet in pool or sea water make sure you wet the hair first using bottled water or shower, this will prevent any chemicals or salt water entering the hair and prevent your extensions from become dull, drying out or damaging them.

Make sure you keep your hair protected & hydrated

Did you no you can buy UV protection for your hair? By applying this before sun exposure you are preventing colour fade and dryness on your hair aswell as your extensions, and just like you apply after sun and moisturiser by applying a hair mask you boost moisture levels in your hair and the extensions.

My fav hydrating shampoo and conditioner sets

  • olaplex 4 and 5

  • Moroccan oil hydrate shampoo & conditioner

My fav hair masks

  • olaplex 3 and 8

  • Moroccan oil hydrate

  • It’s a 10 mask

My fav hair oils/creams

  • olaplex 6 and 7

  • Moroccan oil

Ditch the heat tools

On holiday your hair naturally becomes dryer due to sun exposure, sea and salt water.

What better way to prevent further damage from excessive heat styling than investing into some heat free styling kits, simple braids or hair ups?

  • silk wraps to give you that bouncy blowout look

  • Over night braids to give for a beachy mermaid vibe

  • Sleek pony tails and buns

  • Cute claw clip hair ups

And if you are using heat… MAKE SURE YOU USE A HEAT DEFENCE SPRAY!

Most heat tools average between 170 and 230, water boils at 100 degrees! So imagine the heat you are applying to your hair when you’re holding your wand for 10 seconds or running over the same sections 3-4 times.

Thankyou for taking the time to read my first blog post! for anymore information about any of the products listed or more hints and tips message me via Instagram.
